Alfred Wainwright's guides to walking in the Lake District mountains continue to be favourites even after upwards of half a century. Reprints of the original editions are still bought for the bookshelf in spite of being somewhat outdated. It is important, though, to remember that landscape changes over time. The Lake District hills might all still be there but details of pathways, fencing, plantations, and so on, do change. Both initial edition reprints and the revised editions are included on this website, along with biographical works and others of Wainwright's numerous writings.
