Perry Mason Dvd Sequence
Perry Mason, A Vote For The Defense
To my surprise there was not a weak episode on this set and this is in large part due to the main solid. I cant think of anyone who could be Perry Mason except for Raymond Burr. He has this character down pat and everything from his mannerisms to his brief moments of having some fun, Raymond was born for this role. My favorite character, Hamilton Burger (William Talman) is the prosecuting lawyer and even though he mainly appears in the 2nd half in the courtroom his moments on screen are some of my favorites.
Perry Mason is an lawyer who specializes in defending seemingly indefensible cases. With the aid of his secretary Della Road and investigator Paul Drake, he often finds that by digging deep, startling facts can be revealed. Often relying on his outstanding courtroom skills, he often methods or traps people into unwittingly admitting their guilt. Danny Harrison holds two jobs to make ends meet, one as a schoolteacher, the other at Luke Hickey's diner. One evening Frank Curran arrives to the diner flashing a wad of cash, which is tempting to both Danny and Luke. When Curran is robbed and killed, Danny is charged with murder.
Even though the show sticks to that formula almost without variation, that doesnt change how creative and clever the show was and why its been copied by other shows since. What makes it different from similar shows, is that each script had to have two solutions as to why the accused person would have killed the target the first one thats false that Mason has to disprove, and the 2nd one which is what actually happened, with both of them being completely believable. Another reason the show was so good is the solid of this show starting with Raymond Burr as the unflappable Perry Mason.
